Garden is also a significant pleasure that brings lot of happiness to dwellers. Suvanna expressed her opinion that Thai garden completely comprises of The Five Elements, for example it provides the pleasance in tree shade, edible fruits, and alluring scent of blooming flowers.
“In our country, there is a very wide range of blossoms and trees that particularly suit to each region. For example, The King Bhumibol acclaimed Golden Fig to be the signature tree of Bangkok as its well absorbing root suits well to Bangkok’s flood basin. Lastly, I want Thai people to pay more heed to our forests and water resources since the sustainable development begins with social responsibility of all people in the country.”
Suwanna Araiyapattanakul is an owner of in & out Landscape, a famous Thai landscape company that has won the best garden prize from Thai Association of Landscape Architects (TALA) for 9 consecutive years. She possesses 11 beautiful Thai style houses located throughout the county. This is why she must be in the list when we’re searching for the charm of Thai house.
She defined “home” as a place where she can express herself manifestly, live happily, and relax comfortably ,as it’s a private space that she built by her own. “I think surroundings always lure people to live the way we see. So if we spend our life living among a natural surroundings, we will be tempted to live naturally and happily as well.”
Since she loves to spend most of her time at home, every part of the house becomes by the pond to read and equally important to her; the balcony by the pond to read and play music, the spa room to relax her body, and the praying room to rest her mind. Sometimes she takes a stroll around the garden checking the escalation of the trees. She has fallen in love with Thai house since she was a kid. She was very curious to see ever Thai house she passed, even a Thai-style spirit house. Furthermore, she was interested in the activities enhancing architect skills such as drawing and helping her dad decorate home instead of playing doll and toy like other children. These helped her develop her architect skills since she was very young.
“Thai house is considered the Thai wisdom. We’re proud to say it’s the house of Thai people that our intellectual ancestors developed particularly to suits our way of life. It’s comfortable and appropriate to our geological characteristics. The wood structure that suits to our climate conditions makes the house quite easy to maintain. Moreover, wood is abundant material in our country.”
